Romans declares that all have sinned. The debt for sin is eternal death; God cannot overlook sin and remain just. At the cross, Jesus’ blood demonstrates God’s justice and provides the payment we could never make.
God is both just and the justifier. Grace through faith saves—not earning by deeds—but saving faith is obedient faith (James 2; Romans 1:5). Baptism is where Scripture connects forgiveness and entering into Christ (Acts 2; Romans 6).
