First Sunday

What to expect

We are Christians meeting at 539 28½ Road, Grand Junction, CO 81501. You are welcome whether you have visited churches of Christ before or this is your first time in a meetinghouse.

  • Sit anywhere. No one will ask you to stand and be recognized, wear a name tag for the room, or move to a visitors’ section.
  • Children are welcome. Bible class is Sunday at 9:30 AM for children and adults. In worship, families sit together. We do not run a separate “kids church” during the sermon. See also the children’s Bible stories.
  • We sing with voices only. Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs—no piano, organ, or band. (Some call that a cappella.) That is a conviction from the New Testament pattern for the church’s assembly, not a taste in music. If a song is new to you, listen; a neighbor will share a book.
  • The Lord’s supper (bread and the fruit of the vine) is every Sunday for Christians who have obeyed the gospel. Guests who have not yet done so are welcome to sit and observe; no one will press a tray on you or single you out.
  • The man who preaches is a brother among us—not a clergyman in vestments, and not “the Pastor” as a title over the church.
  • What to wear: modest, ordinary clothes—what you would wear to meet neighbors with respect. Suits are fine; jeans and a clean shirt are fine. We are not watching for fashion.

Stay and meet people if you can. If you have questions about the Bible, we would rather open the book with you than win an argument.

Where do I park, and how do I come in?

Park in the meetinghouse lot at 539 28½ Road, Grand Junction, CO 81501. Walk from the lot to the main entrance on the lot side of the building—there is no separate guest lot. If you are circling or unsure which door, call (205) 617-5888 or (970) 462-9944 and someone will help you find us. Written directions are on the directions page.

What is worship like?

We gather to pray, sing, hear the Word, and remember the Lord’s death. We sing with voices only—no piano, organ, or band (sometimes called a cappella). That grows from the New Testament pattern for the church’s assembly, not from taste in music. If a song is unfamiliar, listen; a neighbor will gladly share a book.

May visitors take the Lord’s supper?

Each Sunday we share bread and the fruit of the vine to remember the Lord’s death. That table is for Christians who have obeyed the gospel (including baptism into Christ). Guests who have not yet done so are welcome to sit quietly and observe. No one will press a tray on you or single you out. If you want to talk about baptism and the Lord’s table afterward, ask any of the men or write us.

What about children?

Bring them. Children are part of the assembly—wiggles and all. Bible class meets Sunday at 9:30 AM for children and adults. In worship, families sit together; we do not send kids to a separate “kids church” during the sermon. Age-graded Bible stories for home are on the Children page, with parent take-homes on Family.

What should I wear?

Come in modest, ordinary clothes—what you would wear to meet neighbors with respect. A dress or a suit is welcome; clean jeans and a shirt are welcome. We are not grading fashion. The aim is reverence, not a dress code checklist.

Is there a livestream?

Yes. Worship and Bible classes are livestreamed on our Facebook page when we are able. The feed is a help for those who cannot assemble in person; it is not a substitute for gathering with the saints when you can. Sermon links and the embed live on the Sermons page.
