Who we are
A church of Christ in Grand Junction
We are Mesa Valley Church of Christ. We meet at 539 28½ Road, Grand Junction, CO 81501. We are not a denomination and have no earthly headquarters. In the New Testament each congregation was local, overseen by its own elders when men were qualified (Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5; 1 Peter 5:1–2).
We wear Christ’s name because the church belongs to Him. We ask no one to become something other than a Christian.
What we believe
The Scriptures are the word of God—able to make you wise for salvation and equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:15–17). We aim to speak where the Bible speaks, and to be silent where it is silent.

The gospel calls a person to hear the word (Romans 10:17); believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God (John 8:24; Mark 16:16); repent of sins (Acts 17:30); confess Christ (Romans 10:9–10); and be baptized—immersed—for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3–4). “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38, ESV). The Lord adds those who are being saved (Acts 2:47).
How we worship
When we assemble we practice the same simple things the first Christians did:
- Singing with voices only — psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, making melody in the heart (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). No piano, organ, or band. (Some call that a cappella.) That is a conviction from the New Testament pattern for the church’s assembly, not a taste in music.
- The Lord’s supper every Sunday — on the first day of the week, as the disciples came together to break bread (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26). Bread and the fruit of the vine remember the Lord’s death until He comes.
- Prayer — in the name of Christ (1 Timothy 2:1–8).
- Preaching — the word opened and applied (Acts 20:7; 2 Timothy 4:2).
- Giving — members give as they have prospered, freely, not under compulsion (1 Corinthians 16:1–2; 2 Corinthians 9:7).
Christ as head; elders here
Christ is the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22–23; Colossians 1:18). Elders oversee this congregation—also called bishops and pastors in the New Testament, the same office. We do not have a one-man “Pastor” as a title over the church, and we do not take orders from a synod, society, or headquarters. See Meet the elders.
The collection supports the work God gave the local church: preaching the gospel, edifying the body, and caring for needy saints (1 Corinthians 16:1–3; Acts 11:29–30; Ephesians 4:12). Individual Christians still do good to everyone, especially the household of faith (Galatians 6:10).
What to expect when you visit
Sit anywhere. No one will single you out. Share a hymnbook if you need one. The singing is the congregation’s voice—voices only, no band or choir performing for you. For a short newcomer walk-through, see Plan your visit.
Each Sunday the Lord’s supper is for Christians who have obeyed the gospel. Guests who have not yet done so are welcome to observe; no one will press a tray on you. The man who preaches is a brother among us—not a clergyman, and not “the Pastor” over the church.
