John 6 · ESV memory verse below
Jesus Feeds Five Thousand
Who is this?
Jesus, a hungry crowd, and a boy who had five barley loaves and two fish.
What happened?
Jesus gave thanks and fed thousands. Twelve baskets were left over. He is the bread of life.
The story
A large crowd followed Jesus. He asked Philip where they could buy bread for them to eat. He said this to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
Andrew said, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” It looked too small.
Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” About five thousand men sat on the grass. Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them—and the fish—as much as they wanted.
When they were filled, they gathered the leftover fragments: twelve baskets. Later Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” He meets needs we cannot meet alone—and He gives Himself.
Memory verse (ESV)
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
John 6:35
